2015/2016

Moad Abu Freih (IL)
Well, my "Normal Life" is partly getting back together again. I am still sharply affected by the project and miss all my friends that I made during these remarkable 10 days, and now I am writing this message with eyes full of tears and a heart full of passion. Oh god, We used to eat together, work together and sleep together, so much humor everywhere, smiling faces, different shapes and colors, someone speaks German over there and others talk in Hebrew, sharing love and peace and exchange ideas...
And then comes the cruelest feeling anyone in this world could ever have, that is, that we finally have to separate in other directions in life. THAT’S UNFAIR!
How can an innocent sensitive living being bear that? HOW?
Sometimes I've the feeling that - "what if nobody told me about this project and I've never heard of it in my life?" - maybe...I could've been feeling better right now and not be stressed any more.
End

I really cried hard while writing this letter ...

It was a wonderful time in Israel!
I expected something else.
I don't know exactly what I expected. I just had a feeling: A little awkward feeling.
I thought when we arrive and go into our rooms with our roommates the atmosphere would be strange and awkward.
I thought we will not speak much and there will be silence and we just live for ourselves
But then...
We arrived and after 5 minutes with the Israelis I already had a really nice conversation.
Everybody was so open for everyone and everything and I really appreciate that!
Already on the first evening I said: " I love it here and I'm so exited about tomorrow"
On the next day we had our first warming up and I couldn't imagine what we were going to do. And then it was so funny and I really loved the warming ups!
After that we went in groups anywhere to get known each other.
My group was with Tidhar, Eden and Luca and I think it was very good that we did this before we started with the actual rehearsals.
It was a very good day with them. I had much fun developing a scene together at the end of the day.
I also think it was good that we changed groups the next day to also get known the others like a small fumble.
Every day was a nice day.
For sure there were also some fights and bad atmospheres but it was needful.
That boosted our friendship and the cohesion of the group.
I enjoyed every single day.
I had so much fun developing and performing my part and to just be with those guys.
I also learned a lot of words in Hebrew.
That was the best experience I could have ever made!!!
I wanna go back!
These experiences I made, changed something in me and they opened a new area in my mind.
I'm so thankful that I was part of that project and I'm very very very excited of the next meeting. THANK YOU.

I came to this project to challenge myself to some social challenges, mental challenges, even a theater challenge. Because I myself love theater. And I am trying to make all this happen together. I think that doing a theater project is an art – a fun art – that can connect all the languages and cultures. And to use it to do some experiments and experiences with the other people from all over the world and other cultures, it can make us really have some different thoughts about this world, can make us think of some other points of view.
Sometimes it’s hard, sometimes it’s work, sometimes it’s not, sometimes it makes me upset, but you know what: I think in the end of this project, it will make me a grown up person more than I came here before. Because the thing of this project is: you start it, you make something and you just come out as a different person, with a different perspective. Before I came here I assumed that I would make some experience. And actually I made, make more than I thought I would. I love it here. And after all that hard time I went through, I am really very happy that I am part of this project.
When we meet a culture that we don’t know, the first thing is to judge, to take it from some point of view from your own world and to judge the other person. But you can only succeed with this project when you switch your mind. It’s not easy, there is a lot of pressure from yourself, from the theater, from the people all around you, but you must do this switch, because otherwise you cannot get to know the other people and you stay in your own place. And staying in your own place won’t get you anywhere.

Shir Barel (IL)
I didn’t know what I was expecting, whom I was expecting to meet, like, of course I knew there where German Kids, but I didn’t knew what their personality was like. I heard… I grew up on like through a holocaust surviving family and I didn’t… I didn’t know what to expect.
So after I came to this project and I got to know these amazing people, I really... I felt a deep connection to them. I think they are amazing people. And I think this project is a really, really amazing project to break stigmas and to break a personal bubble, a bubble you are living in and to get to know people that you normally would never meet or that you wouldn’t want to meet because you are stuck in ways of thinking that are so useless.
I don’t have problems with Arabs, I’m involved in activity for peace, I have Arab friends, so that aspect wasn’t to me as much important as meeting the Germans. I grew up in a family that didn’t have problems with Germans but there were certain prejudices, yes. And around me there is always prejudice. So I didn’t know what to expect. I knew it was not like that anymore, like it used to be… but I never spoke to Germans before, so I didn’t know what to expect. And I was blown away, that I think, is the word I can use the most. Really amazing, amazing, amazing: deep and smart and intelligent and wise and sensitive people.

Also hier kommen total viele verschieden Köpfe aufeinander. Also, wir kommen in jedem Fall schnell ins Gespräch. (...)

Fanny (France)

It was a pleasure to meet you. Thank you so much for this amazing theater project you created. It was for me a real self-improving stage.

Juliá (Germany)
This first workshop was a very intense experience for me. There were no communication problems at all and I think that everyone was proud of the final result. It is nice to have the feeling to have done something as a group.Solveig I found the time together with the group very interesting and good especially because I had no theater experience before. In addition, I found it interesting to talk to people from other countries and to find out about their lives. The most powerful part of the project was the group and I think/and hope the next projects will be just as interesting.

Zohar (Israel)

The Theater For Tolerance project was one of the most powerful experiences I ever took part in. Actually, meeting the different cultures and the different people, made me learn the most about myself. I can't wait for the next round!

Fanny (France)

Lidia (Germany)
These two weeks were wonderful since I was able to be myself and do what I love to do, think up scenes and act .It was also very interesting to get to know the different cultures and to see a Sabbath "live". It was great to speak English and only after a short time there was hardly any difference for me communicating in English most of the time. Of course there were complications sometimes but we always found solutions to the language barriers. Now that I am at school again and must speak German, I have problems sometimes because I find myself answering my friends in the wrong language.Leila (...) This first project was very moving for me, especially meeting new people in a completely new way and because we had to communicate in different languages, while doing theater which wasn’t always so easy. However, we always found a solution and for me this was an important process, which enabled me to get to know people and be part of a new way of communication. After the two weeks these people from totally different backgrounds really grew on me and became very special and important to me. We also spoke a lot amongst ourselves about the different religions, behaviors and prejudices in our different cultures. It was very interesting to be part of this process

Super projet!!!

Theater for Tolerance was far more interesting than I had imagined. Our group is in my opinion great, I did not expect to meet so many open and friendly people. We also understood each other very well despite the language difficulties, my fear that we might remain split into the three groups did not come true. Doing theater naturally helped us to get to know each other and working at the beginning in various small groups with different people, helped also alot.. Cultural, religious or other aspects were never there between us, on the contrary, they brought interesting conversation topics. After the two weeks we all grew from the theater experience and the time we spent together. All of this brougtht us so close that leaving the group was hard and I miss them already.
Diane (France)
The project in France was, as the one in Germany, intense! Still, I enjoyed it all. Even when I was tired, there was such a good atmosphere, I never felt bad, I was always happy to be there, and we all got closer to each other!! I'm so happy, I met everyone, and that I am a part of this great project. I found our second show better than the last one because it was so funny!! (I loved the pirates!) So I hope we'll continue this way for the next one! Can't wait to be in Israel.

Jeanne Fréret (France)

The second part of this project has been so amazing for me. Now, we all know each other so well and thanks ot that, we really got closer. Thank you TFT for making me so happy.

Helena (Germany)

2011 / 2012
Corail:
I had a great time. Making up a whole new play in just over a week is no easy task. but we managed. The groups - the Israelis and the Germans - really have chemistry! I'm planning on keeping in touch. We were just teenagers making theater.

Jamila:
